About Us

Equine veterinarian

Meet Our Team

Dr. Cristin McCarty-Van Straaten has over 35 years experience in the equine industry. Growing up in Saskatchewan, she had her first show pony at 6 years old. She showed her many horses in hunters and jumpers in Western Canada and achieved her HA level with the Canadian Pony Club. She completed her PhD from the University of Guelph in Equine Biomechanics in 2013 with focus on lameness and joint disease and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 from the Ontario Veterinary College. She is certified in veterinary spinal manipulative therapy and focuses on equine lameness, biomechanics and joint health. In addition to her academic achievements, Cristin has a decorated athletic history as member of the Canadian National Womens Rowing Team from 2006-2010. She has competed all over the world, most notably earning a Gold and Silver medal in the 2007 Pan American Games. She currently resides in Guelph, Ontario with her husband and two children.
